Knowledge sharing is the ultimate form of learning, especially with young minds. This transfer of knowledge and expertise to students can allow them to connect what they have already learned in school and gain a better perspective about the industry at hand.
Dave Macedonio, PE, LKB’s Chief Executive Officer recently visited Queens High School for the Sciences at York College and spoke to students about careers in Civil Engineering as part of their annual Career Day event. He was able to meet with several classes to describe and answer questions about different types of work a civil engineer does and the responsibilities that come with those roles. He also informed the students what type of higher education is required as well as the testing and the experience needed to obtain a Professional Engineering License.
Queens High School for the Sciences at York College (QHSSYC) is dedicated to providing a rigorous college preparatory curricula emphasizing the sciences and mathematics, in collaboration with York College/CUNY. Students from around the globe attend this school accepting the challenge of the schools high academic expectations.
Founded in 2002, QHSSYC is one of the nine specialized high schools in New York City, which admits students in NYC that is based on scores attained on the Specialized High School Admissions Examination. QHSSYC has been named one of the top 100 students in the country by the US News and World Report for the last five years.
