Cate Blachly, EIT, is an environmental engineer here at LKB. Soon after graduating from the University of Delaware, Cate, without delay, started in the environmental field with a position at the NYCDEP. Two years later, she joined LKB and has been part of the Environmental Engineering Department for over two years.

With only four years in the industry, Cate is already providing numerous environmental engineering services at LKB for prominent projects and key clients. She is currently performing post-closure engineering evaluations for two New York City landfill projects, as well as landfill gas and groundwater monitoring and reporting at several other landfills. She also has experience working on sewer programs in which she collected data in the areas of the City with sanitary sewer lines, experiencing the most frequent backup, and analyzing the results to develop a plan of action to reduce the backup frequency.

Cate’s responsibilities here at LKB include a nice mix of working out in the field and in the office. Cate finds this mix a benefit to her role as she enjoys being outdoors and can learn both in the field and in the office. While in the field, she can conduct evaluations and perform scheduled monitoring sessions, and in the office, she can compile reports to ensure the sites that are being worked on to meet all applicable regulations and standards.

Having a career as an environmental engineer is a perfect match for Cate. While in school, Cate not only found math and science classes interesting and enjoyable, she performed them very well. Partnering her education with her passion for the environment, her vision with her career was clear.

LKB reached out to Cate about an open position, which led her to browse the company website and our projects grabbed her attention. The diversity and projects that provided a positive impact on the environment aligned with her interests and she came in for an interview. Now, Cate plays an integral part of LKB Team where she has expressed her joy and appreciation for learning new skills that will help in her career.
