Durfee High School

LKB was the civil designer for the site design of a 2,570-student, 500,00 square foot, high school on the existing school site. In addition to site design, LKB over saw the traffic engineering, surveying and performed permitting.

The site design effort included layout and grading of the site along with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for detention systems and low impact drainage design. Design of the sewer service and other coordination of utilities were involved. The site design was complicated by several early packages as well as incorporation of the existing gym and performing arts center into the proposed design.

Along with the landscape architect, LKB worked with the athletics department to review program needs and ensure continued use of the field and track adjacent to the proposed building. The site development included a new multi-use field, new baseball field, refurbished softball field, 8 tennis courts, as well as provisions for pedestrian and vehicular access and parking.

In addition to the preparation of plans, LKB coordinated permitting through the City. The new high school is involved in the Massachusetts School Building Authority program, and the goal is certified with LEED Silver. Documents and preparation of the civil portions of the LEED requirements were prepared and coordinated with the Architect.
