Central Falls High School header

LKB is part of the design team that is providing design, construction documents, permitting, and construction-phase services for the new $90 million, 4-story Central Falls High School project. LKB is the civil engineer and is providing site design and permitting services.

The initial stages of the project included the evaluation of multiple sites throughout the City to determine where the new high school should be located. These investigations included buildable area, permitting requirements, and availability of utilities.

LKB’s effort for the project consists of site design including drainage and utilities, sanitary sewer, water distribution, layout; cut and fill analysis; athletic facility design; combined sewer overflow pipeline relocation; stormwater and wetlands permitting; and construction services. The school will be built on the site of the existing Francis Corrigan Park, which has a large, combined sewer overflow pipeline crossing the site. As such, coordination with the City and local sewer agency, Narragansett Bay Commission, is required for tie-in to utilities and relocation of the combined sewer.

The new facility will be part of the NE-CHPS Program with the goal for the project being NE-CHPS Verified. As part of the design, LKB coordinated the traffic impact analysis including a capacity analysis and evaluation of pedestrian safety on and around the project site. LKB also is involved in the design of athletic facilities, including basketball courts and track and field features for the school athletics program.

LKB is under contract to provide Construction Administration services including shop drawing review, RFI response, and review of the contractor pay requisitions.

This project was originally awarded to The Vertex Companies, LLC, transferred to LKB Engineering, PLLC in December 2024.
