LKB Engineering provided structural consulting services for the extensive renovation of the Sail Loft Boatyard Restaurant located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Services included inspection, structural analysis, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration throughout the project. To achieve the goal of creating a more open dining experience and more functional kitchen operations, LKB Engineering utilized various creative solutions to strengthen existing members, create new openings, and provide support for new freezer storage. To create a more open bar space while also limiting foundation and roof work as requested by the client, LKB Engineering utilized a unique tie-rod rafter tie design to create an open ceiling configuration.
LKB Engineering’s expertise in structural evaluation of existing wood framing and firm understanding of roof framing behavior as well as effective coordination and problem solving with contractors were critical to the overall success of the project.
